Olive & Boar Press

Books grown slowly and printed with care.

A press built around one idea: a good book deserves patience, a steady hand and a place to take root.

Olive & Boar Press seal: an olive tree and a wild boar resting on an open book, set in a gold ring on black.

The Accidental Olive Farmer

Some people fall in love.
Javier fell all the way to Umbria.

Javier Martinez is 45, weary, and fluent in the language of terrible first dates. He is ready for a very long break from the apps.

Then comes one drink with a charming stranger, and a question that changes the course of his life. Before he knows it, Javier is far from Miami, in the middle of a harvest he is wildly unqualified for, surrounded by a family with plenty of opinions.

Funny, tender, and every bit as unhinged as modern dating, The Accidental Olive Farmer is a love story about the person you never saw coming, and the life that comes with him.

Booksellers, reviewers, librarians and readers who want to hear about it first are welcome to reach out.

The Author

Ernesto Crucet kneeling beside a crate of freshly picked olives in an olive grove in Umbria.

Ernesto Crucet is a business analyst by day, which mostly means turning other people’s chaos into spreadsheets. The Accidental Olive Farmer is his first novel, and it is inspired by real events, though he politely declines to say which ones.

He lives between Miami and Umbria with his husband and a husky named Panda, who, yes, is the real one, and who is even needier in person than she is on the page. Each fall he works the olive harvest on the family farm, where he learned Italian out of necessity and is still learning to prune, mostly under supervision.
